HISTORY OF THE ISLAMIC CENTRE OF MARKHAM / MASJID DARUL IMAN THROUGH THE ISLAMIC SOCIETY OF MARKHAM (ISM)
The Islamic Centre of Markham / Masjid Darul Iman is in fact the 2nd project of the Islamic Society of Markham (ISM).
ISM completed the construction of its first Mosque in the City of Markham in 2005. The first Mosque, the Jam’e Masjid Markham is located at the intersection of Denison St. and Middlefield Road.
ISM regularly holds inter-faith outreach programs and community-based events such as the annual dinner honoring York Region’s Police Chief and his frontline officers, Firefighters and City of Markham officials annually, participates in fundraising activities to benefit the Markham-Stouffville Hospital and supports a number of disaster reliefs efforts worldwide through local NGOs.
ISM’s mission is to develop and maintain a religiously vibrant, peaceful, tolerant, cross-community sharing, inclusive, and charitable Islamic organization that provides a comprehensive range of religious and social programs to the residents of Markham and the surrounding areas in accordance with the teachings of the Holy Quran and Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ).
The Trustees and the Board of Directors of the Islamic Society of Markham and Masjid Darul Iman all serve as unpaid volunteers with no financial gains and only volunteer for the sake of pleasing Allah (SWT) and serving the community.
The financials are audited by an independent arm of Chartered Accountants. Masjid Darul Iman is a registered Canadian charity with the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA).

All decisions are made based on Shura-governance structure, which means all decisions made are mashwara-based and subject to the teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ).
