1. INTRODUCTION
Masjid Darul Iman (“we,” “us,” or “our”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use the Masjid Darul Iman mobile application (the “App”).
Most of the App — prayer times, the Qibla compass, the Quran reader, and announcements — works without collecting anything about you. We only receive personal information when you choose to send us a service request. Section 2 explains that case in full.
2. INFORMATION YOU SUBMIT TO US
If you fill in and submit a form in the App, the information in that form is sent to the masjid office. This is the only situation in which the App transmits personal information about you to us.
Facility / hall booking requests include:
- Your first and last name, and organization if you give one
- Your street address, city, province, and postal code
- Your cell phone number, and home phone number if you give one
- Your email address
- Details of your event — its type, date, start and end times, expected attendance, the spaces requested, and any equipment or services requested
- Your typed full name, given as a signature, and a record that you accepted the booking terms
Feedback submissions include:
- Your name and email address
- The feedback or question you choose to send
- The feedback email is prepared in your device’s email app and sent by you to [email protected]
For facility booking information:
- It is recorded as a row in a private Google Sheet that masjid staff use to manage requests.
- It is emailed to the masjid’s service inbox so staff are alerted.
- You are sent an acknowledgement email, and later an email with the office’s decision.
- For facility bookings, an entry is created in the masjid’s internal Google Calendar containing your event’s title, times, reference number, and the spaces requested, so staff can see what is booked.
- If a booking proceeds, staff also record payment and deposit details in that sheet — the amount, the method, who received it, and how any deposit was settled.
For feedback:
- The App opens your device’s email app with a message addressed to [email protected].
- You review and send the message yourself. The App does not store feedback in the booking Google Sheet and does not send an automatic reply.
Google acts as our service provider for facility bookings, through Google Workspace (Apps Script, Sheets, Calendar, and Gmail). Access is limited to masjid staff and administrators. Google may store and process this data on servers outside Canada. See https://policies.google.com/privacy. Feedback emails are sent through your selected email provider and are handled under that provider’s terms and privacy policy.
Zakat applications are NOT submitted through the App. The App gives you the form to complete and email to the office yourself, so nothing from it passes through the App.
3. INFORMATION WE DO NOT COLLECT
We do NOT collect, store, or share:
- User account credentials or login data — the App has no accounts and no sign-in
- Payment or credit card information — no payment is ever taken inside the App
- Photos, contacts, messages, or files from your device
- Analytics or advertising identifiers, and we do not use the App to track you across other apps or websites
- Your device’s precise or GPS location — it is used on your device and never transmitted to us. See Section 4.
Note that if you enable announcement notifications, our notification provider derives an approximate location (country / time zone) from your IP address. That is described in Section 5, and it is the only location information associated with you anywhere in this App.
4. INFORMATION ACCESSED ON YOUR DEVICE
Location Data:
- Your approximate or precise location is used to determine the Qibla direction and to provide prayer-time information relevant to your area.
- Location data is processed on your device only. It is never transmitted to us, stored on our systems, or shared with anyone.
Device Sensors:
- Compass, accelerometer, and gyroscope sensors are accessed to display the Qibla direction.
- Sensor data is processed in real time on your device and is not stored or transmitted.
You can deny or withdraw these permissions at any time in your device settings. The Qibla compass will not work without them; the rest of the App will.
5. PUSH NOTIFICATIONS
- If you allow notifications, a device push token and basic device information (device model, operating system version, app version, language, and an IP-derived approximate country/time zone) are collected by our notification provider, OneSignal, so that masjid announcements can be delivered to your device.
- OneSignal also records delivery and engagement events, such as whether a notification was opened.
- This information is used only to deliver and measure notifications sent by Masjid Darul Iman. We do not use it to build a profile of you, and we do not sell or rent it.
- Prayer time reminders are different: they are scheduled and fired by your own device, and involve no push token and no network connection. Turning them off is entirely local to your device.
- See Section 11 for how to turn each kind off.
6. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
The App communicates with the following third-party services:
OneSignal (push notifications):
- Used to deliver announcement notifications.
- Collects a device push token, device/OS information, engagement events, and an IP-derived approximate location, as described in Section 5.
- Privacy policy: https://onesignal.com/privacy_policy
Google (service requests):
- Google Apps Script, Sheets, Calendar, and Gmail receive, store, and process the information described in Section 2.
- Privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
https://portal.ad-din.ca (ad-din masjid portal):
- Used to fetch the masjid’s daily prayer times.
- No personal data is sent to this service beyond a standard network request (which includes your IP address, as with any web request).
Alquran.cloud API:
- Used to fetch Quran text and translations.
- No personal data is transmitted to this service. As with any web request, the service receives your IP address.
- Website: https://alquran.cloud (this service does not publish a separate privacy policy)
https://daruliman.org (WordPress):
- Used to fetch community announcements and posts.
- Standard web server logs may record your IP address as per WordPress’s own policies.
- Privacy policy: https://daruliman.org
External links (donations, sports booking, counselling):
- These open in your device’s browser, outside the App. We do not process or store any information you enter on them, and no data from those pages passes through the App.
- Please review the privacy policy of each platform before using it.
7. INFORMATION STORED ON YOUR DEVICE
The App stores the following locally on your device:
- Your acceptance of the Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy
- App preferences and settings, such as whether prayer reminders are enabled
- A cached copy of prayer times, announcements, Quran text, and facility pricing, so the App works offline
This is stored in the App’s own private storage and is not transmitted to us. Booking form entries are NOT saved on your device — they are sent when you submit and are not retained locally. Uninstalling the App removes everything in this section.
8. HOW LONG WE KEEP INFORMATION
- Service request records are retained by the masjid office for as long as needed to administer the request and to meet our administrative, financial, and legal record-keeping obligations, including records of payments and deposits.
- Calendar entries remain until the event has passed or the request is declined or cancelled.
- Push notification records are retained by OneSignal in line with its own retention practices, and end when you uninstall the App or turn off notifications for it.
You may ask us to delete a service request record — see Section 11.
9. CHILDREN’S PRIVACY
The App is intended for general community use. We do not direct it at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13.
The forms in the App ask for the details of the person making a facility booking or sending feedback. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at [email protected] and we will take steps to delete it.
10. DATA SECURITY
Service request information is held in Google Workspace, protected by Google’s security controls and restricted to masjid staff and administrators through Google account access. Data in transit between the App and our systems is encrypted using HTTPS.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please do not submit sensitive information — such as health, financial, or identification details — through the App’s forms; they are not designed for it. Feedback is sent through your device’s email app, so your email provider may retain a copy of the message.
11. YOUR CHOICES AND RIGHTS
Notifications:
- Prayer time reminders can be turned on and off with the “Prayer Time Reminders” switch on the Settings tab. This is immediate and local to your device.
- Masjid announcements can be turned on and off with the “Masjid Announcements” switch on the Settings tab. Turning it off unsubscribes your device from our notification provider, so we stop sending to it.
- The two are independent — turning one off leaves the other running. Turning off notifications for the App in your device’s system settings stops both.
Permissions:
- You may deny or withdraw location and sensor permissions at any time through your device settings.
Your information:
- You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of a service request you submitted, by contacting us at [email protected]. Please include your reference number so we can find the record. We may need to verify your identity, and may retain information where we are required or permitted by law to do so.
- You may ask a general question about how your data is handled at the same address.
Uninstalling:
- Uninstalling the App removes all locally stored data and ends push notification delivery. It does not delete a service request you already submitted — use the request above for that.
12. CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted within the App. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
13. CONTACT US
If you have questions or concerns about this Privacy Policy, or wish to make a request under Section 11, please contact us at [email protected] or visit https://daruliman.org.
